Rainbow Trout
Rainbow Trout where origionally introduced in 1898 and are not condisered native to Arizona, although there are prevelent in many Arizona lakes and rivers. They are olive ot bluish on the back with silvery sides and a pink band along the side from head to tail. They are usually speckled with black spots along their back, sides and dorsal fins. Generally, they have no spots on pectoral, pelvic and anal fins.
Average Length: 8 to 32 inches.
Average Weight: 6 ounces to over 10 pounds.
Habitat:
They are generally stocked in most lakes and streams where water temperatures do not exceed 68 degrees Fahrenheit.
Diet:
A Rainbow Trout's diet may consist of aquatic and terrestrial insects as well as small fish.
Fishing Methods:
Most effective baits for trout fishing are worms, salmon eggs, powerbait, corn, cheese, marshmallows, artificial lures and flies.
The number one key to successful trout fishing, is to use light line (4 to 6 pound) and small hooks (10-14 sizes), and small sinkers, as trout have very strong vision and tend to spook easily.
